Double Slide Gate

A double slide gate has two panels that slide apart from the center — one panel travels left and the other travels right. This configuration is ideal for very wide openings where a single panel would be too long to slide to one side.

What's Different from Single Slide

The double slide gate shares nearly all settings with the single slide gate. The key differences:

  • Two panels slide in opposite directions, opening from the center.
  • Each panel is half the total opening width — for example, a 20' opening produces two 10' panels.
  • The same slide style options (V-track or cantilever) apply to both panels.
  • Tail extensions appear on the outer ends of both panels (away from center).

Slide Settings

These settings control the slide mechanism and panel sizing. They apply identically to both panels.

SettingDescription
Slide StyleV-Track — panels ride on a ground-mounted V-shaped rail with wheel assemblies. Cantilever — panels are suspended from a track above, with no ground rail.
ExtensionAdditional frame length beyond the opening that provides counterbalance and roller support when the gate is closed.
Tail PercentageThe tail (counterweight section) as a percentage of the panel length. Typical values are 40-50% for cantilever gates.
Tail StyleVisual style of the tail section — open frame, diagonal bracing, or matching the main panel infill.

Frame and Top Profile

Frame and top profile settings work identically to other gate types. Both panels share the same frame size, top profile, and arch settings. See the Single Slide Gate guide for full details.

SettingDescription
Frame SizeTube size for the top, bottom, and side rails of the frame. Top and bottom can be set independently.
Top ProfileFlat, arch, pointed arch, or other profile shapes applied to the top of each panel.

Pickets

Picket settings (size, spacing, style, twist pattern) are shared across both panels. Each panel calculates its own picket count based on its width and the configured spacing.

SettingDescription
Picket SizeWidth of each picket in inches.
SpacingDistance between pickets (on-center or clear spacing).
Twist PatternNone, all twisted, or alternating twisted pickets.

Rails

Horizontal rails span each panel independently. Rail count, size, and positioning are configured once and applied to both panels.

SettingDescription
Rail CountNumber of horizontal rails between the top and bottom frame.
Rail SizeTube size of horizontal rails in inches.
PositioningEqual spacing or custom vertical positions for each rail.

Posts

Posts on a double slide gate are positioned at each end of the opening. Post settings (size, height, cap style, baseplate) work the same as other gate types.

SettingDescription
Post Count0 (no posts), 1 (one side), or 2 (both sides).
Post Size / HeightWidth and total height of the posts in inches.
Cap StyleDecorative cap on top: flat, pressed, pyramid, ball, pointed, urn, acorn, dome, fluted, or a library component.
BaseplateToggle a flat baseplate at the bottom of each post.

Wheel Boxes (V-Track)

When using V-track slide style, wheel boxes appear at the bottom of each panel. These house the wheels that ride along the ground rail.

SettingDescription
Width / HeightDimensions of the wheel box assembly in inches.
OffsetHorizontal position of the wheel box along the bottom of the panel.

Spear Points

Decorative spear points on picket tops. Style, height, and orientation settings apply to both panels.

SettingDescription
StyleSpear shape: standard, trident, fleur-de-lis, or others.
HeightHeight of the spear point above the picket top.

Additional Uprights

Larger vertical members that divide each panel into sections. Count, width, spacing mode, and cap options are shared across panels.

SettingDescription
CountNumber of uprights per panel.
Spacing ModeEqual — evenly spaced. Custom — manually positioned.
Upright CapsDecorative caps on upright tops with configurable style and height.

Diagonal Braces

Diagonal braces for structural rigidity and decoration. Direction, width, and per-section overrides apply to both panels.

SettingDescription
DirectionTop-left to bottom-right (\), bottom-left to top-right (/), or both (X pattern).
WidthTube size of the brace in inches.
Per SectionBraces in each section independently, or spanning the entire panel.

Section Panels

Fill sections with solid panels, chainlink, or hybrid infill. Fill mode and per-section type settings apply to both panels.

SettingDescription
Fill ModeInset — panel sits inside the frame. Overlay — panel lays on top.
Per-Section TypeChoose fill type for each section: none, pickets, solid, chainlink, or pickets-solid combo.

Barb Wire

Add barb wire strands above the gate for security. Strand count and spacing settings apply across both panels.

SettingDescription
Strand Count2 or 3 strands of barb wire.
SpacingDistance between strands in inches.

Component Overlays

Place ornamental components from your component library onto the gate — finials, scrollwork, rosettes, and more.

SettingDescription
Library FinialsSelect a finial component for picket tops. Choose placement pattern: every picket, alternating, every 2nd, or every 3rd.
Library Post CapsSelect a custom post cap component. Adjust scale and offset.
Custom OverlaysAdd any library component anywhere on the gate. Position with X/Y coordinates, rotate, scale, duplicate with spacing, flip, and assign to panels.
